Digital Drawing & Painting With the Make Lab
The Make Lab has been travelling to branches around town this month for imaging programs using our digital drawing pens. Teens can draw or paint on the computer using a variety of brushes that imitate actual paint brushes, pens, pencils, or dry media (like charcoal). The program we use also has a photo painting feature that allows you to create digital drawings and paintings from regular pictures.
Here are some examples of Photo Painting (click each for full size):

Make Comics
The Make Lab will be travelling to several branches during Teen Read Week (October 16-22) to make digital comics. We will be using Comic Life software, digital cameras, and digital drawing pens. Comic Life software allows you to arrange your digital images (pictures or drawings) with pre-made or customizable layouts, apply filters, add speech bubbles and add text effects. If you create on paper we can use the scanner or cameras to digitize your drawings. If you are more interested in creating a story than art you can check out some free web based tools for creating comics using pre-drawn characters, props, and backgrounds.
