Getting a LFPL Library Card


Individuals who live, work, go to school, or own property in Jefferson county qualify for a free library card. The individual's spouse and minor children living in the same household also qualify for a free card. This library card is good at all Louisville Free Public Library locations.

Patrons who do not qualify for a free card and live in one of the following counties: Kentucky - Breckinridge, Bullitt, Carroll, Grayson, Hardin, Henry, Larue, Marion, Meade, Nelson, Oldham, Shelby, Spencer, Trimble, or Washington Indiana - Clark, Crawford, Floyd, Harrison, Jefferson, Scott, or Washington may still obtain a card for a fee of $25; see details below.

Renewing Your Library Card

Free library cards need to be renewed every three years. To renew your free card, please come into your nearest library branch with proof of eligibility, as defined in the Eligibility section above.

Paid cards need to be renewed yearly.  To renew your paid card, please bring a renewal payment of $25 to your nearest library branch.
