History
The Southwest Branch opened its doors for the first time on Monday, June 26, 1995. The facility has 19,000 square feet and is located in a busy shopping center on Dixie Highway. It is near schools and on a bus line, making it extremely accessible. It is completely handicapped accessible. As a regional library, it provides more books and more services than neighborhood libraries, making it a valuable resource for students, business people, life-long learners and anyone who understands the power and value of information. In addition to the expected services, Southwest has:
- Adult Basic Education Collection for adult new readers
- Books on Cassette Collection
- Typewriter for public use
- Video Collection of instructional and educational video cassettes for life-long learners of all ages.
- Graphics Novel Collection
- Computers with Internet access
The most recent addition to the Southwest Branch is the Computer Learning Center. With 15 terminals, this Center is for general computer use and computer classes. A patron can sign up for a variety of computer classes that are offered monthly. Traditional services such as reference help and a collection of books are also available.
